Carrying out my GAME Plan

To carry out my GAME Plan, I will need to subscribe to several digital resources such as:

Reading and listening to these resources will keep me current on technology trends in education. Then, I can find ways to include or exclude those technological trends in my curriculum. I can consult with the Instructional Technology Specialist at my school to gain suggestions or fine-tune activities. I can get ideas from other students in my Walden class. I may need additional information, but the Walden Library, as well as Google, can provide more resources, if I need them.

In carrying out my GAME Plan, I subscribed and listened to The Teacher's Podcast. I also subscribed to Cool Cat Teacher's Blog. I plan to spend a few minutes (10-15) every week to keep up with new ideas in the educational uses of technology. I have spent some time reading educational technology articles such as "Ten Ways To Get Beyond Powerpoint With Classroom Projectors" (Ten Ways, 2009). I plan to use some of the ideas in the Power Point article in my computer classes.

  1. Hi Donna-
It looks like you found some great resources to begin carrying out your GAME plan. Teacher podcast and blog sites are good to subscribe to because they are always being updated. Both podcasts and blogs would let you connect with other teachers to share experiences.

  2. Hi Donna,

You seem to be on your way with your GAME plan. I also use the tech learning site to keep up to date with technology use in the classroom. I look forward to seeing how the plan works out.

Teaching 21st Century Skills

I recently visited http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/ . I found a lot of resources regarding what skills students should be taught in order to succeed in the 21st century. There were also several states listed that have initiatives to implement policies and standards that will ensure students are presented with opportunities to learn these skills. I liked the recent news events of businesses partnering with schools to help further the students' education, but I was disappointed that there were not more states or businesses listed. I was also looking for suggestions as to how to implement teaching these skills in my class, and did not find them. Did anyone else find good ideas here?

Construction Zone?

I like using the constructivist theory in my classroom. Over the years, I have taught in several states and subject areas. I found a great “hands-on” or constructionist science curriculum that I could integrate with the one I was required to use. This curriculum is part of the Challenger Center program, http://www.challenger.org/. The point of each activity is to ask the students a key question, give them a materials list, and allow them to create an experiment or artifact that will answer the key question. My students loved this material, and their grades in my science class improved. I was surprised to see that their grades and problem-solving skills also improved in other classes as well. I currently teach computer literacy. I use a modified constructivist method in which I give students information, demonstrate the procedures, and then allow them to practice the skill on their own. This method can work with a technology class, as well as an academic area class. I love all the onli...

Using the GAME Plan Process with Students

I have enjoyed using the GAME plan process. It has challenged me to set written goals, and evaluate how I am progressing to achieve them. I am a naturally self-directed goal setter; however, I do not usually approach this self-directed learning with much organization. The GAME plan made me more organized in my approach. I also used what I learned from my GAME plan in my classroom. Using the GAME plan with students should be a similar process. Since my goal, from ISTE NETs-T was to learn more about technology, I will challenge my students to learn more about the technology around them using the NETs-T. I will challenge them to think about educational uses for the technology they use daily like their social networking pages, cell phones, and iPods. Getting them to look at technology with education in mind will enable them to put the existing technology to new uses, and help them develop their skills.
