Reflections on my GAME Plan…

The last assignment for this class entitled, Integrating Technology in the Content Areas is:

  • Reflect on the GAME plan you developed and followed throughout the course.  Summarize any new learning that resulted from your following your GAME plan and explain what impact your new learning will have on your instructional practice.

My GAME plan focused on becoming more aware of educational technologies and implementing them in my curriculum. During this class, I have used my Google Reader account as a "gathering service" to sift through many great articles and bring me the ones for which I am looking. I have spent more time reading and researching these educational technologies. I have learned about Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) in which several students have expressed interest. I read about other teachers using wikis, blogs, and online documents to create and extend learning experiences outside the classroom.

  • Describe any immediate adjustments you will make to your instructional practice regarding technology integration in your content area(s) because of your learning from this course.

My taking this course has made me more willing to try new technology projects in my class. I am doing a second, and probably better, digital storytelling project. I have also begun to rethink and re-make some of the "paper and pencil" projects such as poster making. I would like students to choose to make either a poster board poster, or a digital one using Animoto. I will continue to read about current practices in educational technology. I plan to continue to learn, and to use that information to further my students' learning.

My GAME Plan-Week 4

During week 4, I need to evaluate my Action Plan using the following questions. Are you finding the information and resources you need? I am doing well finding information. I make time to read educational technology (ed. Tech.) blogs and listen to ed. Tech. podcasts. I have also signed up for our school district's instructional fair technology classes. I plan to attend sessions on Web 2.0 tools that work within my school district's strict filtering policies. I also plan to attend sessions on using Ebooks, and creating a web 2.0 web site, using our district-provided software.   Do you need to modify your action plan?  So far, I do not need to modify my action plan. Things are going well. I even have colleagues who plan to attend the technology sessions with me. What have you learned so far?  I have learned that I am using some of the teaching and assessment methods about which I am reading. I am feeling good about being a self-motivated and self-directed lear...

Teaching 21st Century Skills

I recently visited http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/ . I found a lot of resources regarding what skills students should be taught in order to succeed in the 21st century. There were also several states listed that have initiatives to implement policies and standards that will ensure students are presented with opportunities to learn these skills. I liked the recent news events of businesses partnering with schools to help further the students' education, but I was disappointed that there were not more states or businesses listed. I was also looking for suggestions as to how to implement teaching these skills in my class, and did not find them. Did anyone else find good ideas here?

Reaching and Engaging All Learners through Technology-Week 8 Reflection

I have enjoyed this class. I appreciate the practicality of the classes at Walden. I can use the material in my classes right away, if I choose. In this class, I was part of a NING, which allowed collaboration and sharing of resources. I appreciated my classmates input, and will continue to use those resources. I learned more of the teacher's responsibility in the classroom. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction (DI) are more than just "buzz words." In this class, I learned that they are a way of thinking about the material that I present, and how the students learn that material, and even how the students demonstrate their learning of the material I have presented. UDL allows all students access to the curriculum, standards, and objectives through a variety of materials and methods. DI challenges the teacher to learn her students and present the material in a way that he/she finds interesting and learns best. UDL and DI are not difficult...
