My GAME Plan-Week 4

During week 4, I need to evaluate my Action Plan using the following questions.



  • Are you finding the information and resources you need?
I am doing well finding information. I make time to read educational technology (ed. Tech.) blogs and listen to ed. Tech. podcasts. I have also signed up for our school district's instructional fair technology classes. I plan to attend sessions on Web 2.0 tools that work within my school district's strict filtering policies. I also plan to attend sessions on using Ebooks, and creating a web 2.0 web site, using our district-provided software.  

  • Do you need to modify your action plan? 
So far, I do not need to modify my action plan. Things are going well. I even have colleagues who plan to attend the technology sessions with me.

  • What have you learned so far? 
I have learned that I am using some of the teaching and assessment methods about which I am reading. I am feeling good about being a self-motivated and self-directed learner.

  • What new questions have arisen?
How much time will I need to create and maintain my new, updated website, and my new technology discoveries? How will I implement these effectively and smoothly into what I am doing now.



Overall, my GAME plan is progressing well. I am learning about new and current educational technological ideas. As I learn, I think about how I could use these in my classroom. What a challenge!

    Hi Donna,
    I would also like to find some educational podcasts. Do you have a specific site that you get podcasts from? It's great that your colleagues want to go to the Tech Fair with you. It's nice to have support from surrounding teachers. It will also make for good discussion and sharing of new ideas.

    Hi Donna,

    Your concern about how much time it will take to create and implement technology is valid. However, I think that after the initial learning curve, you will find that it becomes much easier. I am in the process of creating a class in our district's mooodle. When speaking to other teachers who use it, they have all said that while it takes a little time to get it set up, they do not how they they managed before they set it up. I am curious to see if the same applies to me.

    It is good that you have other teachers who are planning to attend the technology sessions. It makes it easier when you get back to the classroom after the training and have to put it to use. What one teacher did not write down or understand another teacher probably did.

    Michelle, I use The Teacher's Podcast. I can subscribe to it using iTunes. I also had some great discussions with the 6th grade ELA teachers on how to implement technology on a project they have coming up. Hopefully we can work out the details.

    Tammie, I would love to hear how your Moodle is coming. I have read some about it, but am still not sure my district would allow it. Thanks for your comments.

    Hi,
    My questions is when you are learning the different technological tool is their one that you would not use in the classroom at this present time. If so, what would be the reason for that.

Construction Zone?

I like using the constructivist theory in my classroom. Over the years, I have taught in several states and subject areas. I found a great “hands-on” or constructionist science curriculum that I could integrate with the one I was required to use. This curriculum is part of the Challenger Center program, http://www.challenger.org/. The point of each activity is to ask the students a key question, give them a materials list, and allow them to create an experiment or artifact that will answer the key question. Teaching 21st Century Skills

I recently visited http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/ . I found a lot of resources regarding what skills students should be taught in order to succeed in the 21st century. There were also several states listed that have initiatives to implement policies and standards that will ensure students are presented with opportunities to learn these skills. I liked the recent news events of businesses partnering with schools to help further the students' education, but I was disappointed that there were not more states or businesses listed. I was also looking for suggestions as to how to implement teaching these skills in my class, and did not find them. Did anyone else find good ideas here?
