My GAME Plan-Week 4

During week 4, I need to evaluate my Action Plan using the following questions.

  • Are you finding the information and resources you need?
I am doing well finding information. I make time to read educational technology (ed. Tech.) blogs and listen to ed. Tech. podcasts. I have also signed up for our school district's instructional fair technology classes. I plan to attend sessions on Web 2.0 tools that work within my school district's strict filtering policies. I also plan to attend sessions on using Ebooks, and creating a web 2.0 web site, using our district-provided software.

  • Do you need to modify your action plan?
So far, I do not need to modify my action plan. Things are going well. I even have colleagues who plan to attend the technology sessions with me.

  • What have you learned so far?
I have learned that I am using some of the teaching and assessment methods about which I am reading. I am feeling good about being a self-motivated and self-directed learner.

  • What new questions have arisen?
How much time will I need to create and maintain my new, updated website, and my new technology discoveries? How will I implement these effectively and smoothly into what I am doing now.

Overall, my GAME plan is progressing well. I am learning about new and current educational technological ideas. As I learn, I think about how I could use these in my classroom. What a challenge!

  1. Hi Donna,
I would also like to find some educational podcasts. Do you have a specific site that you get podcasts from? It's great that your colleagues want to go to the Tech Fair with you. It's nice to have support from surrounding teachers. It will also make for good discussion and sharing of new ideas.

  2. Hi Donna,

Your concern about how much time it will take to create and implement technology is valid. However, I think that after the initial learning curve, you will find that it becomes much easier. I am in the process of creating a class in our district's mooodle. When speaking to other teachers who use it, they have all said that while it takes a little time to get it set up, they do not how they they managed before they set it up. I am curious to see if the same applies to me.

It is good that you have other teachers who are planning to attend the technology sessions. It makes it easier when you get back to the classroom after the training and have to put it to use. What one teacher did not write down or understand another teacher probably did.

  3. Michelle, I use The Teacher's Podcast. I can subscribe to it using iTunes. I also had some great discussions with the 6th grade ELA teachers on how to implement technology on a project they have coming up. Hopefully we can work out the details.

  4. Tammie, I would love to hear how your Moodle is coming. I have read some about it, but am still not sure my district would allow it. Thanks for your comments.

  5. Hi,
My questions is when you are learning the different technological tool is their one that you would not use in the classroom at this present time. If so, what would be the reason for that.

Reaching and Engaging All Learners through Technology-Week 8 Reflection

I have enjoyed this class. I appreciate the practicality of the classes at Walden. I can use the material in my classes right away, if I choose. In this class, I was part of a NING, which allowed collaboration and sharing of resources. I appreciated my classmates input, and will continue to use those resources. I learned more of the teacher's responsibility in the classroom. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction (DI) are more than just "buzz words." In this class, I learned that they are a way of thinking about the material that I present, and how the students learn that material, and even how the students demonstrate their learning of the material I have presented. UDL allows all students access to the curriculum, standards, and objectives through a variety of materials and methods. DI challenges the teacher to learn her students and present the material in a way that he/she finds interesting and learns best. UDL and DI are not difficult...

More Adventures in Ed Tech with ESL learners

This coming Tuesday, February 5, 2014 is Digital Learning Day. You can check out the national activities  here . In order to join in the activities, my classes are going on an Internet treasure hunt. I used a free program for teachers by AT & T Knowledge Network Explorer called Filamentality . It was pretty easy to use to create the Web Treasure Hunt;  I just followed the simple instructions. My program director asked for a web quest on the topic of community parent resources, so I chose the closest hospital, pediatric dentist and pediatrician, DMV and food stamp programs. Then I asked basic questions that could be easily found on each website. The "web quest" format seemed a bit difficult for my ESL learners, so I used the more basic "Treasure Hunt." I hope they will be able to find the information easily. In case you are interested in trying this for yourself, here's the link Parent Resource Treasure Hunt Please leave a comment below if you d...
